A France 2 Feature

Journalist Anna Reinhardt visited my studio at the end of August 2023 and conducted this interview with her team for France 2.

A passionate photographic artist, adventurer, and nature enthusiast, I travel to the remote corners of our planet in search of sublime places to immortalize.

With my new personal series ALTERED, I figuratively and formally illustrate our growing distance—and even disconnection—from our planet, as well as the ways in which the digitalization of our gaze is altering how we see and experience the natural world.
Digital capture, especially through our smartphones, has overwhelmed us; more and more, instead of fully living in the Present, we feel an uncontrollable urge: to create images through a relentless tide of digital captures and to share them instantly.

The pixelation of our vision disconnects us from the world and gives us a false sense of mastery over Nature, even though the untouched landscapes I photograph serve as intrinsic proof of our insignificance within the scale of geological time.

In January 2022, I traveled to Iceland to create my images.
This country perfectly embodies those natural landscapes that have been extensively photographed, increasingly shaped by ever-growing tourism.

Each piece is a diptych within a single frame, where two images of the same landscape are superimposed: a pigment print of a flawless analog photograph, and a coarse, damaged, altered digital image, printed on glass using a technique dating back to the 19th century — carbon printing on glass.
This method stands in stark contrast to the speed and ease with which images can now be produced using smartphones or even artificial intelligence.
